Description Lionel BARROW , Made in 2001 HAND MADE Straight Grain Brandy Bottom is Plateau, NEAR MINT! Offering a rare BARROW pipe, from pipe maker Lionel Barrow. It’s the first I’ve come across, and very little to be found about who he is. The examples I found were from 2000 to 2008, and this one is from 2001. It’s a large brandy freehand of sorts, as it’s got a natural plateau bottom surface. Here’s the only information I was able to find, as a note on Pipedia: Lionel Barrow: "Lionel Barrow's craftsmanship and artistry so impressed Teddy Knudsen that he gave Lionel several blocks of briar." The shape is a stout brandy, and could be considered a freehand of sorts. The note that Teddy Knudsen saw his work might suggest Barrow is from Denmark. The bowl shows off some gorgeous straight grain, all around the exterior, and it’s in fine shape too. The pipe looks barely smoked. The bottom of the bowl has a natural plateau, or root ball surface, and has no stain. The bowl interior is lightly seasoned, and the draw hole is right at the bottom center. The stem is original, in great shape, with just a hint of wear, made of black acrylic. It weighs about 3.0 ounces. The pipe’s been freshly polished and is ready to smoke!
