Description LHS “ PUREX ” Mode Pipe L&H Stern, 1926 PATENT PAT No. 1587408, Stinger USA Pipe Maker, Pre WWII Slim Apple 41, NEAR MINT! Here is a retro-cool early USA made pipe by L & H Stern Co., called PUREX. The pipe has a patent stamp for the “self-cleaning” fitment, or what we’d call a stinger. The patent stamp helps date to sometime around 1926 or slightly later, but earlier than 1933, which is when the next patent came out. The pipe looks pretty fresh for a nearly 100-year-old pipe. The bowl shows off some good contrast and rich color, and is in great shape, almost no wear. The bowl interior looks just lightly smoked, and has some kind of white coating (maybe a thin meerschaum lining), so it should smoke well, and the draw hole is about bottom center. The stem is pretty cool too, with two dots on top, one white and one red, and it has no noted wear. The stem has a screw fitment, as shown in the patent drawing and in my photos, and the original stinger still intact, it draws pretty well so no need to remove it, but you could if you wanted to. Weight in about .75 ounces, it’s been freshly polished and is ready to smoke! I buy pipes and collections, message me for details, if interested! Please see my other Auctions!
