Description
This is a Comoy's Extraordinaire (801) Sandblasted Apple shape. A friend at the Las Vegas pipe show in October had lots of rare Comoy's for sale this time. Since I am no expert on Comoy's I figured it would be a learning experience for me to bring some of these beauties home and offer them up on ebay. So far, it's been a real blast...no pun intended. The Extraordinaire 801's, however, caused some confusion when I tried to date them. I originally checked with some other sellers' listings and found they had dated these pipes to the 1930's. But when I tried to confirm this with pipedia, I received conflicting information, based on the (COM) stamp (1930's v/s 1950's). Since there will (no doubt) be collectors checking out this particular (801) pipe, I will leave it for the experts to decide the pipe's birthdate/value and bid accordingly. This straight Apple is in remarkable shape for its age...whether it be 70 or 90 years. The chamber diameter is one inch and the well centered draft hole opens flush with the bottom of the bowl. Further, the stamps are quite visible and a pipe cleaner will travel through the entire pipe with ease. It's a timeless reminder of the golden age of pipe making and an excellent addition to any Comoy's pipe collection.
