Item & Condition: The Champ of Denmark pipe by Larsen & Stigart is a remarkable and highly collectable piece, featuring a generous chamber approximately one inch in diameter. The rim is fumed along with the end of the shank. This pipe showcases beautiful bird's eye grain and a clean appearance, with no tooth marks on the stem or button. The stem fits snugly into the pipe, indicating quality craftsmanship. Larsen & Stigart was a renowned Copenhagen pipe shop that has since closed. The shop sold pipes stamped with their name, including the Champ of Denmark line. These pipes were initially made by Karl Erik Ottendahl, a respected Danish pipe maker. Larsen & Stigart also employed in-house carvers, such as Søren Eric Andersen, for about a decade. The Champ of Denmark brand was one of Larsen & Stigart's notable lines, known for high-quality craftsmanship and beautiful grain patterns. These pipes were often characterized by their freehand designs and natural plateau tops. While i can't be sure this pipe is one of the earliest ones, the design and stamping suggests it is.
