Description
Vintage new Estate pipe, listed as used because it was pre-owned but the bowl is clean, looks unused. Marked J.C. handmade, and it comes directly out of the Cortegiano estate. This is a smaller bowl, possibly a bakelite stem, in a rare purple color? Sleek and sexy!!! Smoke in style! THE STEM IS LOOSE meaning, it is not tight into the bowl and seperates very easily. While smoking, the bowl can and probably will fall off. Needs work - needs a gasket or a tighter stem. Sold as is. Also, the stem has an oval mark that is from an old price tag, seems to not come off, slightly discolored. Lastly, the stem appears to be slightly oit of alignment- meaning it is not perfectly straight. From pipedia - Joseph (Joe) Cortegiano was a highly renowned Pipemaker in New York City, widely famed for the precision and care of his work. He was particularly known for his big freehands, which enjoyed large demand and were reported to be selling as easy as ice cream on a hot day. If we say big, we should think big: one has to imagine pipes a la Ser Jacopo maxima maxima maxima. Or even bigger. Cortegiano pipes were stored in the most famous pipe shops of NYC like E. Wilke on Madison Avenue. He worked also for Barclay Rex. Sold as is
